Masyadong NEO ang mga info ninyo kasi may generation gap tayo. Before PANTRANCO came, there were Red Buses (owned by Capt Fiagoy) and Green Buses (owned by Mr. Carino) servicing the community. They were open buses that seats 10 or more passengers in a row (I guess it has 12 rows) with the breeze from the speed serving as air conditioning unit, so when the bus stopped heading north passed the Lucapon area, it was hot! The conductor has to skillfully hang on the bus like a monkey to ticket passengers and collect fares. There were friendly rivalries between the two as to who can provide the best service (incident free...no flat tires or engine troubles) and make it to Acoje or Baguio first. Yeah it could be fun and tragic as buses lost brakes and accidents do happen. The buses eventually evolve to closed buses built with airconditioners so you no longer sweat as pigs and shower with dust...we passed "stone-age." The Red buses was eventually operated by the Moses family of Sta Cruz.
When PANTRANCO came, the local bus companies folded as they cannot financially compete (PANTRANCO with deeper pocket as they were owned by the Cojuangco family) and the customers they were serving dwindled. Ironically PANTRANCO came to improve the existing service and provide more options to residents not eliminate the Green or Red buses. Whatever ensuing incidents that happened thereafter served as a pre-text for the company to get out of the Acoje route as it is no longer profitable.
Saka if an Acojenian can find a way make it in or out of Acoje for free it was the most preferred way!!!
